The Story of a Soul

THE STORY OF A SOUL

I met Saint Therese when I was in high school and took this book with me to perpetual adoration a few times a week. It began my own discernment of my vocation and gave me a new yearning to be close to God.

HE & I

I received this book the summer before I moved to Brazil. It changed the way I talked to God and deepened my own personal connection.

THEY CALLED HER THE BARONESS

I was introduced to Catherine Doherty through Heart's Home and brought many of her books with me to Brazil. She will change your heart.

AN INTERRUPTED LIFE AND LETTERS FROM WESTERBORK

When I moved to Brooklyn, I lived in a community. Occasionally one of the sisters and I would get Thai food. I was really having a hard time reacclimatizing to life in the United States and had lost a lot of hope. She suggested I read this book, which changed my outlook on life.

Immortal DIamond

A lot of people have differing opinions on Fr. Richard Rohr. For me, finding his writing and community gave me the desire to remain Catholic when I was unable to find a place to belong. The first book I read was Breathing Underwater, which joined my alcohol recovery program, Alcoholics Anonymous, with my religion. Immortal Diamond gave me a new way forward. I love all of his books.

TATTOOS ON THE HEART

Father Greg Boyle's mission, Homeboy Industries, is based in Los Angeles, where I was living when I read this book. This along with Barking to the Choir, are beautiful testaments to the work of the Gospel in today's world.

I only knew vaguely of Sister Helen Prejean when I read her latest book. Her memoir gave me so much comfort in the reality of living a mission and made me want to squeeze her in a gigantic hug (and become the number one person I would love to have coffee with).
