Heart to Heart

Two weekends ago, I had my first full day class to become a catechist for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. I have been attempting to get into a formation since my first daughter was born and I am so excited to finally begin. The timing is a bit interesting since we're still not sleeping much, but I like to trust in God's timing. If you haven't heard of it, you have to look into it - especially if you have a program in your area for your littles to attend. My favorite takeaway was that the role of the catechist is to

"assist the child in falling in love with God."

It isn't to teach or impose, but to observe and journey with the child. It got me thinking about my childhood. I always had an affinity for the spiritual life. And somewhere along the way it became more about piety and rule following than relationship.

I came back to that relationship when I lived in Brazil and spent hours and hours in prayer as well as serving those around me. But I wonder what my teen years and college years would have looked like if I had simply been in love with God.

Then I thought, "am I still falling in love with God?" One of the attributes of a child that we discussed was their innate ability to "wonder." I thought maybe I need to adopt more wonder into my daily life and let it turn my heart to falling more in love with God. This little baby next to me - a wonder to behold! The joy of my children - a wonder!

If you're curious yourself, I made a list of the books they have published that are a great read for parents, too! After all, we are all our children's catechists.

May you fall more in love with God this week,
Erica
