“Behold, I make all things new.”

(Revelation 21:5)

All things will be made new.
All things have been made new.
All things are being made new.

At Easter, through the resurrection of Christ, we receive a glimpse of the resurrection of all things. Jesus is called the “firstborn from the dead” (Colossians 1:18) because his victory over death symbolizes the hope that each one of us has, both in the next life and also in this one. Our sorrows and sufferings are not the end of the story. Our failures and sins are not the end of the story. Social injustice and worldwide devastation are not the end of the story.

Behold, your God is making all things new. Not just on some far-off day in heaven, but right here, right now. Today your God is making all things new.

So rejoice, oh people of God! Rejoice, you who feel disqualified and you who feel too far gone. Rejoice, that the Lover of your soul says you are being made new. Today is a new day, God is doing a new thing, and the great Hope of all the ages declares possible what you feared could never be: all things are being made new. Alleluia, alleluia, forevermore.
