I love being a mom. I used to carry around five baby dolls because I (thought) I wanted lots of kids. I started babysitting before I was ten and have gotten to take care of so many children over the years. But my goodness - actual motherhood has been a shock in difficulty.
I am faced daily in my inability to do it all. Being a mom is hard. Like really hard. Becoming a mother has made me appreciate Mother’s Day more than ever - not just for me, but for all the moms around me.
I see my friends doing incredible things. From managing medical care for children with illnesses, juggling both work and caring for their family, making food for other moms even when they’re drowning themselves, experiencing grief and still having to pack lunches and carry on.
I know Mother’s Day can be a hard day for some. For those missing their moms who have passed away, for those longing to be a mom, for those who have lost a child, for those whose mother was unable to be there for them.
This year let us look at Mother’s Day to celebrate more than just our own moms. May we see each other. May we honor Mary, our mother, our spiritual mothers, our friends who are mothers, our grandmothers, our aunts who have been like mothers - all of the beautiful women that bless our lives.
