The beginning…
My brother came to visit me in New York in July. It was the first time in years that we got to spend so much time together and we were getting excited because we had plans to move to Los Angeles together in the next month. So many changes and excitement ahead of us. Eventually conversation turned to us wanting to start a business together.
“Some of the best duos are siblings,” he said. The Wright brothers, the Coen brothers, Luke and Owen Wilson, Mary Kate and Ashley. He and I compliment each other pretty well–he is outgoing, I’m more shy; he is more technically savvy, I live a little more in the clouds; he is a night owl, I’m a morning person, etc., etc. But we’re both creative and our brains are always running.
After starting to practice calligraphy back in January and in the past few months many people started reaching out to hire me for prints, invitations and event design, it only seemed natural to pick up the momentum that had already begun.
One evening I said, “oh! we could make tote bags.” And Alex replied, “totes.” The light bulb went off and I exclaimed, “that’s what they’ll say! Totes!” A few minutes later I had whipped out the design that is on our first product, our Totes Tote Bag. We ran with it. We are so excited to release our website after much anticipation and will slowly be revealing what we hope to grow in a “Be A Heart” movement.
