How to Pray a Nature Rosary


Yesterday I was thinking about fun ways to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. I was looking at fun ideas of making a rosary of m&ms or cupcakes and then this idea came to me. A nature rosary!

Take a nature walk in silence. Each person collects small objects in a basket or something you have lying around the house. This could be rocks, leaves, mushrooms, pods, nuts, sticks, etc.

Set out a string (twine, yarn, or a rope) in the shape of a rosary to give a guideline.

The leader should also have 6 flowers, 2 sticks, and 3 found objects.

Bring everyone back together to begin the prayer. Decide who will be in charge of each decade/prayers. Begin by placing the sticks as a cross at the end of the string and recite the Apostles' Creed.

Place one of the flowers and say the Our Father.

The leader places the first three found objects and prays three Hail Marys - one for faith, hope, and charity.

With the next flower, pray the Glory Be and the O My Jesus prayer.

Then the first decade is announced. You can get free printable Mysteries of the Rosary cards here. They say the Our Father. Then, with 10 found objects, they say a Hail Mary. They are followed by a Glory Be and O My Jesus.

Repeat for all 5 decades. 

After they are finished, the leader ends the rosary with a Hail, Holy Queen prayer.

The finished rosary makes a beautiful piece of nature art. You could take a picture to make into cards or hang in your home!

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
 I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

The Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

O My Jesus
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.

The Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
