This Sunday is the Feast of Corpus Christi. On this Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, we honor the gift of the Eucharist and the mystery of Jesus’s presence in the bread and wine. While the most common way to celebrate this special day is by eating bread and wine, we're sharing 5 unique, family friendly ways to honor this feast day!
Make Bread and Read John 6
You can make sourdough bread or buy some from a local bakery. Read the Bread of Life discourse from the Gospel of John (6:22–59). Afterwards, reflect on the message from the Gospel and share any significant parts that stood out to you.
Attend Eucharistic Adoration or a Procession
Many Catholic parishes will have Eucharistic adoration and/or a Eucharistic procession in honor of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Find out what is happening at the nearby Catholic churches and take part. Bring your whole family, friends, neighbors and experience this moving procession together.
Make a Gratitude Journal
It is called Eucharist because it is an action of thanksgiving to God. The Greek words eucharistein and eulogein recall the Jewish blessings that proclaim—especially during a meal—God’s works: Creation, redemption, and sanctification.
- Blank notebook
- Markers or paint and brushes
- Washi tape
Decorate the outside of your notebook with paint or markers and washi tape. Set it out as a reminder to write down 10 things you’re grateful for every day until Christmas. If you are married or have roommates, share a notebook to keep each other accountable and share each other’s lists of gratitude. With kids, encourage them to draw pictures of things they are grateful for. Make this the first thing you do in the morning!
Decorate with Field Daisies
Daisies are called the Corpus Christi Flower because they look like monstrances. Decorate your home with field daisies for Corpus Christi.
