5 Quotes About Mental Health We Love

As Catholics, our faith has been a source of comfort and strength during both good and bad times. In the midst of mental health struggles, anxiety and depression, it can be easy to feel as though we are all alone - but it's important to turn to the saints who came before us and offer grace and encouragement. We invite you to take a few moments to pause and reflect on the powerful words from our Saints listed below, and pray that these words will bring peace and healing into your life.

“Mental health is not a question of faith or belief; it is a universal human concern. It is important to create a culture of encounter and solidarity, where those suffering from mental illness are not stigmatized but supported and loved.” - Pope Francis

"I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone." - Thomas Merton

“Mental health challenges are not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith. We must foster a culture of openness and support, where individuals feel safe to seek help and receive the care they need.” - Pope Francis

"Father, I am seeking; I am hesitant and uncertain, but will you, Oh God, watch over each step of mine and guide me." - Saint Augustine

“Mental health issues affect families, relationships, and communities. We must work together to dismantle the barriers of stigma and discrimination, and promote mental well-being for all.” - Pope Francis

In honor of the feast of Saint Dymphna, and Mental Health Awareness Month, we are rounded up a few women we look up to, and asked them to share their unique journeys and expertise with us. Each day on our Instagram story, they will be talking about their own experiences in the hopes that you might be able to identify with them and feel seen and known. This is not to replace medical advice, rather it is a conversation between friends, sharing experiences. Follow us on Instagram (@beaheart) to join the conversation!
