7 Simple Ways to Celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus
This Friday marks the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This special feast day is celebrated on the Friday after Corpus Christi. On this day, we are reminded of the heart of our Lord and his eternal love for us. As Saint John Paul II said, "This feast reminds us of the mystery of the love of God for the people of all times" - this serves as a powerful reminder of God's never ending love for us. As we prepare to honor this feast day, we are sharing seven simple ways to acknowledge this day.
Reflect on the promises of the Sacred Heart
Start your Friday morning with powerful reflection. Find a quiet space in your home, turn off your phone and remove all distractions. Read each promise of the Sacred Heart aloud and write down ways that you are struggling to believe in each promise, or what you can do to alter your mindset. Speak each promise into situations that make you feel hopeless or alone, and let the words serve as a reminder of His love for you.
Download a free printable of the Promises of the Sacred Heart and hang this on your fridge or bathroom mirror. Read each promise and acknowledge the truth behind it!
Make heart aflame desserts
This heart aflame fruit tray is a fun snack to make with kids!
What you'll need:
- Strawberries
- Peaches, mango or pineapple
Clean all fruit. Cut the strawberries in half to make little hearts. Next, cut small rays out of the peaches, mango or pineapple. Arrange the rays above the strawberry, like a Sacred Heart.
Take this one step further to make heart aflame sundaes! Arrange together strawberry ice cream (for the heart), peach, mango or pineapple (cut into long strips for the rays) and chocolate chips (crown of thorns). Enjoy!
Pray for the reunion of divided families
Whether it's the brokenness in your own family or a loved one, Jesus promises through devotion to His Sacred Heart that He will bring peace to families.
Write out one way you hope to see healing and peace in your family, or the struggling family of someone you love. Pray for that specific intention and ask Jesus to be with them.
*Bonus: Write your prayer on the mirror of your bathroom or closet so you are reminded to bring this prayer to Jesus.
Rest your head on Jesus' Heart
The first devotion to the Heart of Jesus was when Saint John the Apostle rested his head on the breast of Jesus at the Last Supper. Grab a pillow case, an eraser, and fabric paint and cut out tiny hearts to stamp on a pillow!
Pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
All you need is a few minutes to pray! Say this prayer first thing in the morning or before bed. You can even print our free downloadable copy of the Litany and display it in your home as a daily reminder to pray.
Contemplate His Sacred Heart with music
Sometimes, the best way to honor and worship is through music. We have a curated "Sacred Heart of Jesus" playlist with songs that help you ponder Jesus and His love for you. Listen to the words and let them speak to you.
