How to Pray a novena to Our Lady of Fatima

The feast day of Our Lady of Fatima is on May 13th - the day that she appeared to the shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. 9 days prior to her feast day, we pray the novena to Our Lady of Fatima, which begins on May 4th.

Our Lady of Fatima is also called Our Lady of the Rosary because she told the children to pray the rosary every day to bring peace to the world. She also gifted us with the Fatima prayer that we now pray at the end of each decade of the rosary - “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy. Amen.”

In 2017, it was the jubilee year - marking the 100th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. I was so done with praying novenas to find a life partner, but I decided to do it one last time because of all the novenas in all the years, 100 years seemed like a big anniversary and maybe Our Lady of Fatima wanted to show off. So I prayed. 9 days. I admit it was half hearted because I didn't really believe it would do anything. I went to my friends' housewarming party that day. I did not think about it being May 13 (remember, I really didn't have much hope). And then I saw a really (really) cute guy. Long story short, he's now my husband. So for the rest of my life, I will be devoted to Our Lady of Fatima in gratitude of what she did for me!

Join us to pray the novena this year to Our Lady of Fatima. Your intention can be big or small. It could be for a specific need or simply that you may trust more fully in God. There are multiple variations of the prayers for this novena. There is no official one way to pray it. I like this one that I found via Denver Catholic.

Pray these 2 prayers that were taught by the Angel to the Fatima children

Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the Rosary and Mother of Mercy, who has deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary, inspire our hearts and the hearts of all the faithful with a sincere love of this devotion.  Trusting in your maternal mercy, and grateful for the goodness of your Immaculate Heart, we beg you to hear our prayers and to answer the favors we so earnestly seek of you in this novena:

Namely, for a complete surrender to Jesus and to His Divine Mercy, and for any other intentions we may offer (mention any additional requests here)…

We ask this of you, for the greater glory of God, for your own honor and for the good of all people. Amen.

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You!  Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly, and I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference with which He Himself is offended. And, through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners. Amen.

Then pray:

The Our Father (x3)
Hail Mary (x3)
Glory Be (x3)

You can also pray the rosary each day if you feel called to.
